After two encouraging seasons that saw Rayo Vallecano finish 12th and 11th, fans will have been optimistic about their side’s chances in the 2023/24 season. Unfortunately for Los Franjirrojos, it hasn’t worked out as they would have hoped. Despite their struggles, Rayo have still done well to put themselves in a strong position to avoid the drop. They hold an eight-point lead over 18th-place Cadiz and can all but guarantee their top-flight status for next season with a win here. That means that the club went seven months without a domestic league victory. They come into this contest following a 3-1 home loss to Getafe. The visitors have lost three of their last four and have managed only a single win, three draws and 12 defeats in their 16 away trips so far.
