Two giants of Russian football, Zenit and Lokomotiv Moscow will face off in the season curtain raiser – the Super Cup – at Kaliningrad Stadium before the Premier League officially kicks off. This will be the third time the two sides play in the Super Cup game since 2019. Zenit won 2-1 last season while Lokomotiv won 3-2 in 2019. Zenit have generally been dominant over Lokomotiv Moscow in the teams’ recent meetings. They are unbeaten in the last four, winning two and keeping clean sheets in two draws. Zenit finished the league top last season and even in their preseason activity, they’ve been dominant in their matches. Lokomotiv Moscow are coming from a loss in their final friendly match before they start the season. A 2-1 defeat at home to Rostov was their second preseason loss after earlier on losing by the same margin to Aris. They’ve struggled to keep clean sheets as well, managing just three in their eight friendly matches in preparation for the coming season. Three times in the last five matches, they’ve conceded two goals, while they’ve scored more than a goal in just one of the five matches.
