With their match against Eritrea canceled, Tanzania will be heading to Zambia for their Tuesday Group E World Cup qualification game. These two nations are tied on three points though second placed Zambia are two places ahead, and have played a game more. Group E has had an imbalance following the exclusion of Eritrea from the qualifiers. As a result, only Zambia have played three matches as we head into Match Day 4. Meanwhile, Congo, in the same group, have played just once (their circumstances are quite different). After playing the most games, Zambia have the most defeats (two). Their most recent loss was in Morocco on Friday, falling 2-1 to the Group E leaders. Edward Chilufya scored a late one for Zambia but it would end up as a mere consolation in their second straight defeat in the group. Chipolopolo went into this game seeking to build on an earlier 2-1 win over Malawi. The loss meant they are left with just a win in their last eight matches. They’ve only suffered one home loss in six World Cup qualification matches at home, which will build the confidence here.

For the second time in 2024, Tanzania will face off with Zambia. In their first meeting of the year, at AFCON, a late Zambia equalizer denied Tanzania a first ever win at the competition. That game ended 1-1 signaling the third draw in five meetings between these nations. Tanzania will now go in search of their first win in six meetings with Zambia, which could take them joint top. With Eritrea out of these qualifiers, Tanzania had no game in the past week. Instead, they took on Indonesia in an international friendly, drawing 0-0 in the match played in Jakarta. They will hope to have rested well after the long flight back to Africa and here they have the chance to add to their three points. Tanzania’s last 10 matches have returned just two wins, against Sudan and Mongolia. They failed to score in six of those 10 matches and will surely seek an improvement here. The silver lining for the East Africans is that they haven't lost an away World Cup qualification match in the last five outings. They drew three of them.
