Wrexham vs Wigan Prediction & Betting Tips - Carabao Cup
by Devesh Jaganath in Carabao Cup Predictions
Wrexham will welcome Wigan Athletic to Stok Cae Ras on Tuesday for a first-round clash in the Carabao Cup. The last time Wrexham competed in this competition was back in the 2007-08 season when they were knocked out in the second round by Aston Villa. The hosts earned promotion back to League Two last season after winning the National Division with 111 points in 46 matches, edging out Notts County by four points. They record 34 wins, nine draws, and three losses in that time while ending the season unbeaten in their final five fixtures. Since then, they played Chelsea in the Florida Cup and lost 5-0 but managed a 4-0 win over LA Galaxy II and a 3-1 win over Manchester United in two friendly matches thereafter. Their first league match was an entertaining encounter against MK Dons, which ended in a 5-3 loss, though there were several positives that they would have taken from that match. Wrexham have been fearless in recent times under new ownership, and despite being the lower-league side in this fixture, they are the strong favourites on most bookmaker odds.
Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic ended last season at the foot of the Championship table and will have to battle this season in League One. Despite remaining undefeated in their final four league matches, they were only able to record 39 points in their 46 matches, which was five points behind Blackpool in second-bottom. They got their League One campaign off to a winning start, beating promotion favourites Derby County 2-1 last week. However, they are still at the bottom of the league due to an eight-point deduction at the start of the season after the club failed to deposit funds to cover their player's wage bill. As a result, Wigan are currently on -5 points after the first matchday. While they are the outsiders in this match, their win over Derby last week would have improved the mood around the camp, and they will be right up for this match as they look to put a disastrous 2022-23 campaign behind them.

Our Wrexham vs Wigan Prediction
While the hosts come into the match as the favourites, this is far from a foregone conclusion. The visitors managed an eyebrow-raising win against Derby last week and have long been considered a higher-league team up to their recent financial difficulties. They will be desperate to build up some momentum to carry back into the league, having been docked eight points. This should be a very entertaining encounter, and we fancy that both sides will get on the scoresheet. Our Wrexham vs Wigan Athletic prediction: Both teams to score. We will also be having a small go on Wigan Athletic Draw No Bet at very attractive odds of 3.0.
