The return of the Bundesliga after a three-month hiatus sees Wolfsburg and Freiburg go head-to-head at the Volkswagen Arena. Wolfsburg, sitting in seventh place, will be looking to continue their strong form as they ended the first round as one of the most in-form teams behind Bayern Munich, earning thirteen points from their last five Bundesliga games, including wins over Dortmund and Hoffenheim. Despite a shaky start, manager Niko Kovac has been able to reform the team and they now have kept three clean sheets in their last four competitive games. The hosts have also scored at least twice in each of their last seven league and DFB Pokal games and are currently unbeaten in their last nine. During the break, they played five friendlies, with a record of 2-2-1, only losing against Augsburg. They will be targeting a win to continue their strong form and break into the top six. Four of their last five home meetings with Freiburg have featured over 2.5 goals, with three of them featuring goals at both ends. 

Freiburg, the Bundesliga's positive surprise of last season, have been extremely consistent for the second campaign running. Currently sitting in second place, just four points behind leaders Bayern Munich, manager Christian Streich has done an impressive job leading the team to success, while they are also through to the Round of 16 of the Europa League. Die Breisgau-Brasilianer are currently the fourth most in-form team, earning twelve points from their last five league games. They have five wins in their last eight games, with just three defeats all season, coming against Bayern, Dortmund and Leipzig. They have the joint-second best away record in the Bundesliga, yet have conceded in four of their last six on the road. Freiburg have also conceded in seven of their last nine at the Volkswagen Arena. This will be a challenging game for the visitors, yet they have shown a positive face in their friendlies, winning three and drawing two while scoring fifteen goals in total and conceding in all of those games.
