Wigan vs Swansea Prediction & Betting Tips - Championship
by Donal Kearns | in Championship Predictions
Wigan are aiming to continue a fine run of form at home this weekend, as they chase a fourth consecutive victory at their own ground when they face Swansea. Wins at home have been crucial for the Latics in their bid to stay in the Championship, having lost six of eight away trips. Wigan need to keep picking up points at home, but they’ve had a tough time against the league’s top sides ahead of this meeting with the Swans. The hosts are surging towards safety after their results at home, but they come into this one with just two wins in six matches. The problem for the Latics is that they can’t really build momentum given their terrible return on the road. However, they are starting to make the DW Stadium feel like a bit of a fortress.
The key for the hosts is their defensive effort, as they don’t have much going for them in attack. Meanwhile, Swansea continue to surprise with the Welsh side flying high up in fourth place. They aren’t far off the automatic promotion places, despite being nowhere near the running for the playoffs preseason. A major part of that form from the visitors is their fine record on the road, while they have been really tough to break down defensively. The Swans have conceded less than a goal per game in the league this season. The majority of those goals against them have come at the Liberty, with the Swans conceding just three times in six trips so far. That has led to 67% of their away trips finishing with fewer than three goals scored. That is form which could easily continue here, as the hosts struggle to break teams down at home. Wigan have scored just 0.86 goals per game this season, hitting seven in six home matches. The Latic have seen fewer than three goals scored in total in nine of their last 10 home games, while they have shipped just four goals in their last eight at home. With both sides boasting great defensive records, we struggle to see an open game here. Under 2.5 goals is our tip, having landed in 83% of Wigan’s home games this season.

Our Wigan vs Swansea Prediction
The Latics have a solid home record so far, but there are potential problems for the hosts here. They head into this one with a poor record against the very top sides, losing five of their six meetings with teams currently in the top eight of the Championship. When you balance that out with a Swansea side who are unbeaten on the road this term then backing the visitors seems like a solid option here. With Swansea unbeaten in six meetings with the Latics, we’re backing the Swans to claim a 1-0 win here.
