There's always something happening at Wigan Athletic and it's probably time they had a season of consolidation. The last six seasons have seen three relegations and two title victories in League One not to mention winning the FA Cup and playing in the Europa League. Last season saw them winning League One and reaching the quarter finals of the FA Cup knocking out three Premier League sides including champions Manchester City. The last two times they won League One, they immediately returned after being relegated and won't want to make a hat-trick of that disaster. Defence was a strong point last season with only 29 goals conceded in 46 league games and only two home defeats. Whether they can repeat that form in the Championship is questionable and a season of mid-table consolidation would be good for them after the recent ups and downs.
Sheffield Wednesday finished 15th in the Championship last season in no danger of relegation but miles behind the play-offs. They scored 59 goals but conceded 60 and 24 out of 46 league games had over 2.5 goals scored in them but 13 out of 23 away league matches had under 2.5 goals scored in them. Wednesday have lost their last two pre-season friendlies while Wigan have won one, drawn one and lost one. A bet on under 2.5 goals looks to be the one to go for in this match.
