Wigan vs Preston North End Prediction & Betting Tips - Championship
by Daniel Ngulu | in Championship Predictions
The 31st round of matches in the Championship are set for the weekend with Wigan set to host Preston North End in the early kickoff on Saturday. Going to the match, Wigan, placed 22nd, have 29 points while Preston are seventh with 47 points. Wigan breathed new life into their survival bid with back-to-back wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds in their most recent matches. They can rise out of the relegation region for the first time in weeks with another three points when Preston come calling, as they are just two points away. The win over Leeds was a gritty one, but deserved due to the astute defending and with some sheer luck as Leeds went close before and after the own goal by Pablo Hernandez. Having staged a great second half comeback to beat Sheffield earlier, they will feel they have what it takes to string another win, and especially given they are at home. Wigan have managed three wins in the last 19 matches, and these have come in the last six matches but having managed the first home win in eight matches with the victory over Sheffield, they will feel like favorites here. Wigan have scored more than once in just one of their last 10 home matches but have conceded more than one goal in just four of the last 12 home matches.
Preston, on their part, go to this game unbeaten in four matches, with two wins therein and they are looking to rise back into the promotion playoffs region. They played to a 1-1 draw with Swansea last time out and will be happy to have more attacking options, with Scott Sinclair scoring in the game, having joined from Celtic. Preston are three points out of the playoff zone and with a win at Wigan, they know they could get there, and that will form a big basis of how they approach this game. They have beaten Wigan thrice in the last five meetings and will seek to extend that domination in this clash, especially looking to build on the 3-0 first leg meeting. Preston have scored before half time in their last four matches but have won just one of their last five away matches in the Championship. At least one goal has been scored in their last eight Championship matches too.

Our Wigan vs Preston North End Prediction
Wigan, seeking a rise from the relegation zone, will go to this game on a high after their back to back wins but will find an equally motivated Preston side looking to get into the top six so we expect an entertaining clash here. In the last five meetings, Preston have been dominant, but they have not done so well away from home as they head here, and neither have Wigan been good at home. Wigan have no clean sheet in eight home matches but they will want to add to Preston’s away day woes. Wigan survived narrowly against Leeds but the performance left questions over their defending; we believe Preston will get a goal here. However, with the psychological boost from the last two matches, we feel Wigan will also hit the back of the net. We will go for a draw in this clash.
