Matchday 18 of the English Premier League sees West Ham taking on Brentford at the London Stadium as the festive period of football continues. The hosts have had a hugely disappointing campaign so far as we approach the halfway mark of the season. The Hammers have managed only 14 points from 16 matches by way of four wins, two draws and 10 defeats. Their last result was a 3-1 defeat away to Arsenal which saw West Ham take a 1-0 lead into half time to ultimately concede three unanswered goals in the space of 16 minutes in the second half. West Ham have been on an ugly run of form with three consecutive losses in the Premier League and four straight defeats overall in competitive matches. 

Standing in their way for this fixture is a Brentford side sitting firmly in mid-table with a record of four wins, eight draws and only four defeats putting the Bees in 10th-place on 20 points. The visitors could really use three points here as they underwent a difficult run of form in the lead up to the World Cup break. A 2-2 draw against Tottenham in their latest fixture means that Brentford has only recorded one win in their last seven competitive matches, which surprisingly enough came at the expense of Manchester City away from home. Manager Thomas Frank will likely feel as if his team missed a golden opportunity in the draw against Tottenham on Monday as his side held a 2-0 lead heading into the final 30 minutes of play, only to concede two goals in six minutes to share the spoils.
