West Ham United are 16th in the Premier League but could be in the bottom three when this match begins. They host Aston Villa who are 11th in the table and the same number of points ahead of the Hammers. West Ham have only won six Premier League games this season. Thursday saw them win 2-0 at AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League, their ninth win out of nine in that competition. West Ham are only a point above the bottom three and have lost two of their last three league fixtures. Of their six Premier League wins this season, five have come at the London Stadium. They have won two of their last three home league games with seven goals scored and just one goal conceded. They need to keep up the good home results unless finally working out how to get points on the road. However, their remaining home games include games against four of the top six so three points this weekend is almost a must for them.

Aston Villa come into this match having won their last two Premier League games. Seventh place might just get a club into the Europa Conference League and Villa are five points adrift of that position at present. Their recent wins have come against Everton and Crystal Palace, both of whom are in poor form at present. Villa have only won four away league games this season and lost six. Only two points were earned from their first seven away league games. That's all been turned around in recent months with four wins and a loss at Manchester City.
