West Bromwich Albion will be very confident as they host Southampton on Monday in the Premier League, right after their 5-2 win over Chelsea. The win at Stamford Bridge moved West Brom to 21 points but they stayed 19th while Southampton are 14th with 36 points. West Brom are eight points adrift of safety but the win in their last game should fuel belief they can escape. Sam Allardyce’s side has all in their control for now and can close in on 18th placed Fulham who have played two games more and are just four points ahead. The Baggies scored in the Chelsea game as many goals as they’d managed in the previous 10 league matches but the result was coincidental rather than planned. Callum Robinson came from the bench after another sub, Branislav Ivanovic got injured, and he scored twice as West Brom rose from a goal down after Chelsea had a man sent off on 29 minutes. The Baggies hadn’t scored in the three matches prior to the Chelsea game and will have the pressure of carrying on here. They have two wins in the last 12 league matches and lost six in the process. At home in the league they’ve also been poor, winning just two of 15, a 13% win rate and gaining 11 out of a possible 45 points. For this game, Ivanovic is a confirmed absentee while Dara O’Shea will be subjected to a late fitness test, as Connor Gallagher returns after missing the game against his parent club.

Southampton are getting it right again. Two straight wins, and three in five explains this best. They are coming from a 3-2 comeback win over Burnley, having earlier beaten Bournemouth 3-0 in the FA Cup. Now the biggest concern would be in defence, with the team having conceded 53 goals in the league; only West Brom (59) have conceded more. The attack is doing well, having scored in each of the last five, a total of 11 goals, and conceding nine. Influential skipper Danny Ings is back from injury and marked his return with a goal and an assist against Burnley. Theo Walcott is also back and grabbed an assist against Burnley while Nathan Redmond has hit top form with three goals and two assists in the last three matches. Add an in-form Che Adams and James Ward-Prowse there and Southampton are complete offensively. Defensively there could be a few issues, with Kyle Walker-Peters set for a late fitness test and midfielder Oriol Romeu out on the long term. Southampton also need to improve on an away run that has six losses in seven league games, and having failed to score in five. They have a 27% win rate on the road, having managed four wins in 15 matches, and they’ve earned 16 out of 45 points away from home.
