West Brom host Sheffield United in a highly anticipated game for the EFL Cup. Steve Bruce’s side are entering this fixture in good form. They might have started the Championship season with two 1-1 draws, yet both came against strong sides and both were secured with the Baggies responding to an early opposition lead. Their resilience can also be shown by the fact that they have only lost once in their last eleven games, all while keeping five clean sheets during that run. West Brom are also really strong at the Hawthorns, where they have only one loss in their last nine, while they have also beaten Sheffield in their last two home meetings. With regards to how they fared in last year’s League Cup, West Brom’s journey was short-lived, as they were dismantled by Arsenal in their first game, losing 6-0 at home.  

The visitors are entering this matchup on the back of a 2-0 home win against Millwall. Paul Heckingbottom’s side will need to display a much better defensive performance than they have shown in recent games if they want to get something from this tough away tie. That is because they have conceded in nine of their last eleven games on the road and have only managed to beat West Brom once in their last five meetings at the Hawthorns.
