If at all West Bromwich Albion are to survive in the Premier League, their home match against Newcastle United is a must-win game. The two face off with nine points separating them; the hosts on 17 points in 19th place while Newcastle United have 26 points, in 17th place. West Brom made a big step up with the win over Brighton but they were back to losing ways in their last match, falling 1-0 to Everton, leaving them nine points below the safe zone. Mbaye Diagne was denied a late equalizer when his finish was ruled out for offside. Here they face the team right on top of the relegation region and a win will do the Baggies a lot of good. They need goals and need to seal off defensively, being the poorest in defence in the league. West Brom have conceded 56 goals so far, and in their last five matches, haven’t managed to score more than one goal per game.

It is grim at West Brom but it isn’t better at Newcastle United; they have no win in their last three matches and just one in the last five league matches. Their 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last game stopped a run of straight losses but there’s still questions on the Magpies’ defending. They’ve managed no clean sheet in the last five matches. Perhaps their only positive here is that they have a game in hand over the three teams below them and three points above their closest challenger, Fulham. Newcastle have conceded two or more goals in four of their last five matches and both sides have managed to score in four of their last five matches as well. Three of their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals and they haven’t been impressive away from home. In the last 10 away matches across all competitions, Newcastle have one win and nine losses. They’ve conceded two or more goals in seven of their last 10 away matches and in the Premier League, they have just three wins in 13 away matches. Alain Saint Maximin's injury woes seem far from over and he is set to stay out until April with a groin injury while Callum Wilson remains a long term absentee. This badly depletes Newcastle's attack ahead of this game.
