Matchday 19 in the German Bundesliga sees 13th-place Werder Bremen looking to build upon their shock victory over Bayern Munich when they host seventh-place Freiburg. The hosts pulled off one of the surprise wins of the 2023/24 season when they upset the Bavarian giants 1-0 at the Allianz Arena. It was Werder Bremen’s first away victory of the season as they had previously drawn three and lost five of their eight total away trips.  The result means that Die Werderaner have now gone five matches without defeat as they move nine points clear of the relegation zone thanks to their 20 points total. They can now make it back-to-back Bundesliga wins for the first time this season as they return to the Weserstadion. Bremen have a respectable home record of four wins, two draws and three defeats in nine matches. Their last home outing saw them earn a point in a 1-1 draw with fourth-place Leipzig.

Freiburg come into this matchup off the back of an excellent 3-2 home win over Hoffenheim which saw them grab the late winner despite being reduced to 10 men. Roland Sallai was the hero of the day, netting an 85th minute winner to give Breisgau-Brasilianer their fifth home league victory of the season. The victory also pulled Freiburg even on points with Frankfurt for sixth-place and a spot in next season’s Conference League. The visitors will have to close a five-point gap on Dortmund currently if they are to replicate their fantastic fifth-place finish from the previous campaign. Freiburg are in a decent run of form at the moment with two wins, a draw and a defeat in the last four competitive fixtures. Their 1.11 average points earned per away match doesn’t stack up to their 2.00 average points earned at home, but they’ll be confident of a result here.
