Watford will start their Championship season with a home match against QPR on Saturday. Both sides had disappointing finishes to the league last season and will be hoping to start better. Hosts Watford will definitely want to improve on their performance in two preseason matches they had. They are coming from a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace in their final warmup game, having earlier drawn with Boreham Wood. The preseason run just stretches their slow finish last season, when they finished with four wins in 19 matches. Watford come into this game having failed to score in two of their last five matches. Two of their last four have had over 2.5 goals, same as half of their last eight home matches. In the last three meetings with QPR, two have produced over 2.5 goals, with Watford suffering three straight losses.

QPR also suffered a loss in their last game of the preseason engagements, getting thrashed 5-0 by Oxford United away. It is not the start they will wish for, after impressing in the earlier three matches, in which they avoided defeat. QPR’s target for this season will be to do much better than their 20th placed finish last season. They ended the campaign just six points above the relegation zone. QPR also had a poorer goal difference than all of the teams that survived. Coming into this game though, they will be optimistic, given their head-to-head record against Watford. The visitors have three straight wins over Watford and have won in two of their last three visits here. Coming into this game as well, three of their last five matches have had over 2.5 goals scored. Three of their last four away matches have also seen over 2.5 goals.
