Barcelona took another step towards retaining their La Liga title with a 2-0 home win over Espanyol at the weekend. Both goals came from Lionel Messi making it six in the last three league games for the Argentinian. The win maintained the ten-point lead that Barcelona have with just nine league games to go. They have won their last six league games and are unbeaten in the last 16, On their travels, Barcelona have won seven of their last eight league games and not lost any of the last 11.

While Barcelona are chasing the league title, Villarreal are battling to stay in La Liga. They are a place and a point above the bottom three and lost 3-2 at Celta Vigo in their weekend fixture. That's despite taking a two-goal lead inside the first 15 minutes and ended up conceding the winner with just a few minutes of the game to go. They have improved their form of late with wins at Levante and home to Raya Vallecano, both of whom are in the bottom six. Villlarreal have also reached the last eight of the Europa League but have only won two of their last eight home league games. This looks booked for a Barcelona victory.
