The stage is set as Villarreal B face off with Tenerife at the Ciudad Deportiva. Villarreal’s second team are currently in tenth place, with Tenerife occupying fifteenth place and the distance between them being a mere four points. For the hosts, a goal against Cartagena was enough in midweek, with the 1-0 away victory being their second in the last five. Despite a lack of efficiency, it is fair to say they have been resolute defensively. Villarreal B have kept three clean sheets in their last four games, as well as four in their last six on home turf, where they are also impressively unbeaten in their last eighteen matchups. The hosts have however, lost their only other home matchup against the islanders with 2-0. 

Tenerife’s important 2-1 win over Alaves was much-needed for two reasons. Firstly, it allowed the team to edge closer to the top six places, now seven points adrift. Secondly, it arrested a poor three game losing streak, with Tenerife now boasting four wins in seven games. The visitors however, have been disappointing in their away performances this season, in an area that needs urgent improving. Specifically, they have lost three of their last five on the road, overall counting a meagre two wins in eleven. While a trip to the Ciudad Deportivo has been a daunting task for the majority of the division’s sides this season, Tenerife could find some solace in the fact that in both of the two teams’ previous encounters, the away team has prevailed.
