There’s nothing to separate the two sides going into the second leg at Estadio de la Cerámica as Villarreal look to make their home form come to their rescue against Anderlecht. The first leg was drawn 1-1 with Manu Trigueros’ opener cancelled out by Anderlecht’s Anders Dreyer in the second-half. Villarreal are looking to get into a fourth quarter-final in four European campaigns but will have to quickly tide their form. A 1-1 draw at the weekend against Real Betis in La Liga followed as Villarreal continue to hold on to the sixth spot in a title battle for European spots. The Yellow Submarine haven’t really torpedoed at home this season with only one win coming from their last four competitive matches here, accompanied by two defeats. It’s a completely different story in Europe though, with Villarreal winning three and drawing one of their four home matches in this competition.

Anderlecht are travelling in the same boat as they find themselves out of European qualification spots in Jupiler Pro League. They are 9th in the standings after a 2-0 win in the weekend against Cercle Bruges, although with that win coming against a direct rival, they should have gained confidence. They are into the knockouts of any European competition for the first time in six years but have taken the hard route to this stage. They were second in their group in the league stage before they were taken to penalties in the play-off. After five straight wins in this season’s Conference League, Anderlecht have gone off the boil with just two wins off their last eight matches, losing three. It’s their away form that could be of concern as Anderlecht have won just one of their last four away matches in the competition.
