Vietnam and Indonesia will seek to get their AFC Asia Cup campaigns on the right track when they battle each other next. The two nations are competing in Group D and at the moment are pointless with Indonesia sitting fourth and Vietnam third. Vietnam began the tournament with a 4-2 defeat to favourites Japan. They will now seek an immediate response as another defeat will mean automatic elimination. It will take much doing as Phillipe Troussier’s men have recently found it hard to win. The defeat, their second against Iraq in three months, extended their current winless run to six matches. This streak, which has seen them lose five times, began with a 5-1 thrashing by Iraq in a World Cup qualifier. The Red and Whites are back on the continental stage after a 17-year hiatus. They last participated in the Asia Cup in 2007. Indonesia won their group opener then but ended up being eliminated in the group stage. This is the country’s fifth Asia Cup appearance and they will hope to end their group stage hoodoo.
