Venezuela will go to their third Group B match of the 2021 Copa America against Ecuador a much confident side after the 0-0 draw with Colombia in the second. After opening their campaign with a 3-0 loss to Brazil, they have placed themselves well for qualification to the next stage with this latest result. Four teams are set to advance to the quarters from each of the two groups and with matches against the two lower placed nations, Peru and Ecuador remaining Venezuela will be confident going to this game. There are needed improvements though; they are winless in the last four matches, and have no goal in their last three matches. Having conceded three against Brazil and Bolivia in their last four matches, 0-0 draws with strong Colombia and Uruguay sides signal a good defence and they should hold their own on that front against Ecuador. It however remains to be seen how they solve the attacking problem, especially with key striker Salomon Rondon absent.

Ecuador do not have a very strong run either; they go to this game winless in the last three matches. They’ve lost three straight games, against Brazil, Peru and Colombia. After their opening 1-0 loss to Colombia in this group, they are placed fourth, a place below Venezuela who have played a game more. These two nations are expected to seal passage to the next stage but this game will determine more of that. Notably, Ecuador haven’t lost to Venezuela in their last six meetings but the last two ended in draws. In their last three matches, Ecuador have scored just one goal but conceded five, and just like Venezuela, they’ll have attacking issues to address. Going here with no clean sheet in the last nine matches will also mean they make an effort to tighten up at the back.
