Vasco da Gama are currently the bottom side in Brazil's Serie A. They have only one point from their first four league games of the season and are two points from safety. Last season they finished 16th in the table, just one point and one place above the relegation zone. It's not been the kindest of fixture lists for them though and the three teams that they have lost to are all currently in the top six at the time of writing this preview. Their only point has been earned in a 1-1 home draw with 16th placed Corinthians.

Avai finished third in Serie B last season just earning a promotion to the top-flight. They haven't made a good start to life in Serie A with two points from their first four games. They have only scored two goals in those games but conceded just four. Goals are in short supply for them and the last three league games have produced just one goal and that was scored by the other team!  Go for under 2.5 goals to be scored in this match.
