Ninth-place Vancouver Whitecaps play host to the second-placed Seattle Sounders in this Western Conference clash. The Whitecaps return home after a two game road trip which saw them record a 3-2 win over LAFC followed up by a 3-0 defeat in their most recent outing. The loss to Kansas City put an end to a five game unbeaten run for Vancouver who now trail eighth-place Austin by a single point and seventh-place Houston by two points. The Canadian club’s form has been night-and-day different when playing at BC Place where they have won five, drawn four and lost just once. This is in comparison to Vancouver’s abysmal away record of only one win, three draws and five defeats in nine trips. The Blue-and-White had a five match unbeaten run put to an end in their last outing and they will be looking to get back to winning ways here.

Seattle came through with another strong defensive performance in their 1-0 home win over Houston last weekend. It’s the second consecutive clean sheet for the Sounders who have only allowed one total goal in their last three fixtures. It was a much needed boost as Seattle’s offense continues to struggle without the likes of Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldon who are on international duty. The absence of Morris, who is the team’s top-scorer with nine goals, is evident. The visitors have only managed to register one goal and have been shut out twice in the three games since the start of the Concacaf Gold Cup. They’ll now have to deal with a Vancouver team that is allowing under a goal per game at BC Place. Seattle’s victory over Houston put an end to a five match winless run for the club who now trail first-place St. Louis City by three points.
