Real Madrid are back in La Liga action on Sunday night when they travel to Valencia for a match at the Mestalla. The reigning champions are second in the league with 16 points from their opening seven matches. Real Sociedad, the only team ahead of Madrid in the table, have played a game more. Valencia have endured a much tougher campaign with eight points from eight games leaving them in 13th place. The once-great club has been plunged into crisis by the careless manner in which it is run. Reports alleged that the firesale of players that occurred in the summer signified to the remaining squad that the aim for the season was to avoid relegation. If they continue their current run of form, that aim won't be easy to achieve. Winless in four matches in La Liga, Valencia lost three of the games on that run. They have been better at home, only losing one of their four Mestalla fixtures. 

Zinedine Zidane's side arrive in town on the back of their first Champions League win of the season, a 3-2 home triumph over Inter Milan. They are unbeaten in their last four matches, picking up big league wins away to Barcelona and at home to Huesca. One thing the visitors may worry about is their poor defensive record in recent weeks. Madrid have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six matches in all competitions. Recent matches featuring Los Blancos have been thrilling with the last five featuring at least three goals. This shouldn't overlook the fact that Madrid remain probably the best team in the country. They have won 15 of their last 18 matches in La Liga and they are unbeaten in three meetings with Valencia. Back Madrid and over 2.5 goals.
