With a mandate of improving their form going into the international break, Valencia host high-flying Atletico Madrid this weekend. This La Liga match to be played at the Mestalla will see the hosts 11th on six points with the visitors on 4th with seven points. Although technically only a point separates these two sides, they are miles apart in form. Valencia have not only played a match extra, they are also coming on the back of two defeats. Los Che went into the break with a 1-0 loss to Deportivo Alaves which followed a 2-1 defeat to Osasuna. This nearly evaporated their start to the season where Valencia have won 2-1 against Sevilla and 1-0 against Las Palmas. With only four goals scored, the frontline is failing to live up to the expectations only ending up making a mess of the good work their backline is doing.

Atletico will test that backline as they come on the back of ten goals scored, which is the best in La Liga this season. Seven of those goals came in one match though, when they thrashed Rayo Vallecano 7-0 going into the international break. They are yet to concede a goal since conceding one to Granada on the opening day of the season. With a game in hand and five points behind leaders Real Madrid, Atletico can’t afford to slip here and slip out of contention. As things stand they won’t mind staying on the road, where they are yet to concede a goal.
