Eighth-place Valencia will look to keep their hopes of European football alive when they host 12th-placed Alaves for matchday 34 of the Spanish LaLiga. The home side come into this fixture on 47 points, putting them four points behind sixth-place Real Sociedad and a Conference League spot. Los Ches have hit a skid with two consecutive losses after falling 2-1 at home to Real Betis followed by a 4-2 away defeat to Barcelona last weekend. It snapped a positive run of seven points in three games for Valencia, who will now return to the Mestalla in hopes of a return to winning ways. In front of their home crowd, Valencia have largely been very good. They had previously been on a 12-match home unbeaten run in LaLiga and have won eight, drawn five and lost just three in their 16 outings so far. 

While their opponents have been struggling in recent weeks, Alaves have been thriving. Los Blanquiazules have won their last two matches on the trot, defeating fourth-place Atletico 2-0 at home which was followed up with a 3-0 home win over Celta. The winning run snapped a three-match losing streak for Alaves and took them up to 38 points in the standings. The visitors may well be setting their sights on a top-half finish in the remaining five games as they currently trail 10th-place Getafe by five points. However, they’ll have to reconcile with their poor away results as they come into this contest having lost on their last three away trips. Altogether on the season, Alaves has managed only two wins in their 16 road games, both of which came in January. Ultimately, it is the home side that has more to play for at this point in the season and they should come away with the win.
