Third-place Uruguay takes on fifth-placed Ecuador in Montevideo for matchday 10 of the 2026 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying campaign. Let’s get into the prediction with an important three points on the line for this match between La Celeste and La Tri.  

It hasn’t been a great return to qualification action for Uruguay following an impressive Copa America which saw them finish third. Since returning, the Uruguayans have drawn twice and lost once, the most recent being a 1-0 away defeat to Peru. Worryingly, it also marked the third consecutive game that La Celeste have failed to find the net, a rare occurrence for a Marcelo Bielsa coached side.

Ecuador continue to impress in the 2026 World Cup qualifying swing, even after suffering a three-point deduction for falsifying player documents.

They’ve posted the same record as Uruguay with four wins, three draws and two defeats, but with the deduction they’re brought down to 12 points. This has them sitting fifth, nursing a slim one-point lead over seventh-place Venezuela for an automatic qualifying position.

Last time out, Ecuador failed to breach the Paraguayan defense as they were held to a 0-0 draw in Quito.
