Uruguay vs Colombia Prediction & Betting Tips - World Cup
by Joseph King | in World Cup Predictions
The pick of the matchday 11 fixtures in CONMEBOL’s World Cup qualifying region sees a rematch of the summer’s Copa America semi-final as Uruguay hosts Colombia in Montevideo. The Colombians sit in second place and hold a three-point lead over third-placed Uruguay. Let’s take a closer look at this match between Los Cafeteros and La Celeste.
With the top six positions securing automatic qualification to the 2026 World Cup, Uruguay are in a good position with their total of 16 points. They lead seventh-place Bolivia by four and have a goal differential advantage over the Brazilians in fourth. The two-time world champions are seeking their fifth consecutive trip to the World Cup.
Colombia are also sitting pretty with eight matches remaining in the qualifying campaign. They’ve built up a 19-point total, putting them three points behind leaders Argentina. After the heartbreak of failing to qualify for Qatar 2022, the Copa America runners-up are within touching distance of booking their ticket to the North America’s 2026 edition.

Uruguay - Colombia: Form Analysis
Uruguay got off to a hot start in qualifying, energized by the leadership of Marcelo Bielsa. They carried that over into the Copa America, where La Celeste secured a third-place finish - their best showing since being crowned champions in 2011.
However, since returning to qualifying play, Uruguay have been ice-cold in front of the net.
Uruguay have failed to score a single goal in their last four outings!
Most recently, Bielsa’s side was held to yet another 0-0 draw, this time by Ecuador, marking the third goalless draw for the hosts in their last four appearances. The only saving grace for Uruguay during this four-match winless run has been their excellent defense.
Colombia will look to take advantage of their opponents’ misfirings and enter this match off the back of their highest goals tally of the campaign so far.
Four different players got on the scoresheet in Colombia’s most recent 4-0 home win over Chile last month. It was the perfect response after suffering their first defeat in 90 minute regulation time in nearly three years.
Colombia have a record of 2-1-1 since finishing as the runners-up in the Copa America, with their 2-1 home win over Argentina in September undoubtedly the highlight.

Uruguay & Colombia Squad Analysis
A major contributor to Uruguay’s recent dip in form has been the absence of various key players due to their involvement in a postgame brawl with fans in the Copa America. Darwin Núñez, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mathías Olivera and Jose Maria Gimenez were among the players suspended and had to miss multiple matches.
The good news for Uruguayan fans is that all of the above mentioned players are back and available for selection.
Uruguay are also dealing with the controversy within the squad after the now-retired Luis Suarez came out and publicly criticized Marcelo Bielsa’s man management style.
Bielsa himself would come out and admit that the comments had “affected his authority” as Uruguay manager.
For Colombia, manager Nestor Lorenzo does have to deal with a few notable injuries ahead of this match. Juan Cabal, who joined up with Juventus from Hellas Verona in the summer, suffered a terribly unfortunate ACL tear while in training ahead of this fixture.
Elsewhere, Bournemouth winger Luis Sinisterra is recovering from an injury and was not called up. Los Cafeteros will also be unable to call upon two other players as Crystal Palace’s Jefferson Lerma and Girona’s Yaser Asprilla are both set to miss out here.

Our Uruguay vs Colombia Prediction
There could be trouble brewing for Uruguay as locker room issues threaten to implode the team. Whether or not the legendary Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa can win over some of his more disgruntled players remains to be seen, although recent results on the pitch don’t paint a great picture.
On the other side, Colombia manager Nestor Lorenzo has strong team unity at the moment as his squad continues to put up impressive results. That could be a decisive factor in Montevideo on Friday and gives us another reason to back the in-form Colombians. Our Uruguay vs Colombia prediction: Colombia double chance.Uruguay vs Colombia - Other Interesting Predictions
Both teams to score: No
Two strong defenses will face off in Montevideo on Friday as Uruguay and Colombia get set for another fiery clash. Colombia have only conceded twice in their five away qualifying matches so far, but they've only scored twice. Four of their five away games have finished with at least one team failing to find the net.
For the hosts, they seemingly can't buy a goal as they've now failed to find the net in their last four outings. Going back even further, Uruguay have seen "Both teams to score: No" come through in eight of their last nine competitive matches. Emotions are sure to be high in this one and all signs point towards goals being at a premium.
