Uruguay are going through tough times and their 1-0 loss to Argentina in Group A of the Copa America was a major highlight of their decline. They will be facing Chile in the second game, hoping to get their tournament going. Second placed Chile have four points already, having played a game more than Uruguay, who go to this game placed fourth. Whereas four teams will be advancing to the quarters, Uruguay won’t want to be the ones finishing fourth, and to get that, they need to start winning. It is now four matches without a win for Uruguay and it is raising concerns especially with the quality of players the team has. In the Argentina game, Edinson Cavani returned after a two-match suspension, while they also had Luis Suarez and most of their top players. Going to the Chile game, Uruguay have failed to score in the last four matches, a matter they’ll have to address if they want success at this competition. Once again there have been concerns over the aging squad and a number of senior players are talking of retirement.

Chile have their own issues with age in their team but have had a better run compared to Uruguay’s. They go to this game on the back of a 1-0 win over Bolivia courtesy of Ben Brereton’s early goal. In their last four matches, Chile haven’t scored more than a goal but they’ve scored in each of their last 10, though keeping just two clean sheets in that run of 10 matches. Their run in recent times hasn’t been quite impressive and even in the World Cup qualifiers, Chile are struggling, currently sitting out of the qualification spots. Their win over Bolivia saw them rise to second in the Group A standings and with a win here, they’ll secure a place in the quarters, which will give them room to rest key players. Chile have lost to Uruguay in their last two meetings and will want to avoid another loss.
