Uruguay vs Brazil Prediction & Betting Tips - Copa America
by Ian John | in Copa America Predictions
Two South American giants will clash in Las Vegas as Uruguay face Brazil in the final quarter-final of the Copa America 2024! Along with Argentina, these two teams are two of the most decorated teams in Copa America history, winning the famous trophy 24 times between them (15 for La Celeste, 9 for the Seleção). Let's take a look at the match stats and predictions for these two Conmebol heavyweights!
Uruguay strolled through Group C in the tournament, winning all three of its games, including a 5-0 thumping of Bolivia and a final group game 1-0 win over hosts United States. That result secured Uruguay the top spot in the group and also eliminated the host nation. Marcelo Bielsa’s team are the top goalscorers in the tournament so far, netting nine goals in three games, conceding just once.
Brazil’s journey into the quarterfinals of the Copa America was considerably less impressive. Dorival Jr.’s team began with a very disappointing 0-0 draw against Costa Rica in their opening fixture but then seemed to put things right with a 4-1 victory over Paraguay in their second game. A tough final group game with Colombia, unbeaten in 25 games heading into this match, would decide the winner. A 1-1 draw was not enough for Brazil, meaning they finished second in Group D and now face Uruguay in the quarterfinal. The winner of the tie will go on to face either Colombia or Panama in the second semi-final on July 11th.

Uruguay - Brazil: Form Analysis
Uruguay’s form heading into the tournament was excellent and has continued in that vein throughout the group stage. Los Charruas have lost just twice since September 2023, both 2-1 defeats away to Ecuador and then to the Ivory Coast in a friendly game held in Lens, France back in March. They have drawn two other fixtures alongside those defeats, winning the remaining eight.
What has been truly impressive is not just their wins, but the manner in which they have achieved them. They have scored plenty of goals across those 12 games, a total of 28, with wins of 4-0 over Mexico and 5-0 over Bolivia in their last four matches. Furthermore, they can point to wins over Brazil (at home) and Argentina (away from home) in that run, as well as a draw in Colombia, showcasing their ability to get key results in the big games.
Uruguay won its three Group Stage games, defeating Panama 3-1, Bolivia 5-0, and the United States 1-0 in their trickiest game so far.
Only Uruguay, Argentina and Venezuela were able to win all three of their group matches.
Brazil are unbeaten in 2024, but Dorival Jr’s team did lose three games in a row at the end of 2023, which has put them in a very tricky position in their World Cup Qualifying campaign. One of those defeats came at the hands of today’s opponents Uruguay, while the others came away to Colombia (2-1) and at home to Argentina (1-0).
Since then, Brazil have drawn four and won three of their seven fixtures in 2024. That includes two draws in the group stages of the Copa America, a 0-0 draw with Costa Rica and a 1-1 draw with Colombia. Sandwiched in between was their best tournament performance, a 4-1 win over Paraguay at the stadium where this quarter-final clash will be played.

Uruguay & Brazil Squad Analysis
Uruguay should have a full strength squad to pick from for the game with Brazil. Their disciplinary record at the tournament has been excellent, with just one booking across the three matches in the group stages so far. However, that was awarded to Darwin Nunez, a player that they will be desperate to have available for any potential semi-final.
Uruguay's star players in the tournament have included defender Ronald Araujo, midfielders Francesco Valverde and Maximiliano Araujo, and striker Darwin Nunez.
Brazil will be without star man Vinicius Jr. due to suspension.
Brazil suffered a massive blow in their 1-1 draw with Colombia. Not only did the result mean that they finished second in the group, thus facing Uruguay in the quarter-finals, but a booking for star man Vinicius Jr. rules him out of this game. As Brazil’s main attacking threat, his absence against Uruguay will be keenly felt, especially with the injured Neymar missing the entire tournament. Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli could come in, as could the 17-year-old prodigy Endrick, who will join Real Madrid once the tournament is completed.
Defender Marquinhos is one of Brazil’s most consistent performers, as is goalkeeper Alisson and they will be key against this pacy and dangerous Uruguay attack.

Our Uruguay vs Brazil Prediction
Our prediction for the Uruguay vs Brazil Copa America 2024 quarter-final is for both teams to score
Uruguay have been electric in attack in the Copa America 2024 so far; rattling an average of three goals per game, winning all three group games and looking potent in attack. Add to that their muscular and combative defence and you have the recipe for a team that could well go far in the tournament.
However, they probably weren't banking on meeting Brazil in the quarter-final. After finishing second in Group D to Colombia, the Selecao extended their unbeaten run to seven games in 2024, although four of those have been drawn. The data suggests a close game, but one where attack may be the best form of defence for both teams. As such, backing both teams to score is our main prediction for this classic Copa America tie.
Uruguay vs Brazil - Other Interesting Predictions
Darwin Nunez (Uruguay) to score at any time
Liverpool's much-maligned Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez may have struggled for goals towards the end of the season at Anfield, but he has found them much easier to come by in a national team shirt. He scored ten goals for Uruguay in their last ten games, including goals against Brazil and Argentina in World Cup qualifying victories over the two.
He also bagged a hat-trick against Mexico in their final warm-up fixture for the tournament and continued his good form with goals in their first two games of the Copa America, scoring in the wins over Panama and Bolivia.
His directness and pace has caused Brazil problems in the recent past and as such, he is our secondary prediction to score at any time in this game.
Uruguay to win and both teams to score
Our final selection is to pair our initial prediction of both teams to score, with a prediction of the winner of the match, which we believe will be Uruguay.
Brazil may be unbeaten in 2024, but they have struggled in World Cup qualifying, losing three games out of six played, including a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in that run. Their form at the Copa America has also been mixed with poor showings in the draws with Costa Rica and Colombia. Vinicius Jr. scored twice in their 4-1 win over Paraguay, but the Real Madrid man will be suspended for this game with Uruguay, which is a massive blow for Brazil. Especially against a quality defence like Uruguay possesses.
Brazil's defence has been resolute, but they face their biggest tournament test in the form of a free-scoring Uruguay team. With Darwin Nunez in form and legend Luis Suarez likely to be available from the bench if required, the goalscoring threat of Uruguay, compared to that of Brazil, is far greater. Brazil will likely score in this game, they tend to score in most games, but even so, Uruguay's form and quality means that they are our pick to land the win with both teams scoring.
2 Goals Ahead Early Payout Offer
One of the worst feelings when placing a football bet is when the team that you have backed has gone into a multiple-goal lead only to be clawed back to a draw or to lose the game in question. This is something that bet365 has rectified for their bettors courtesy of this offer. If the team that you backed takes a two-goal lead your bet will be paid out as a winner. That is any two-goal lead so 2-0, 3-1, 4-2 etc will all be paid out early as a winner if your team is in that position. This is available in 80 different competitions including the major leagues across Europe and can be played on the full-time result market. Singles and multiples are both valid for this offer but you cannot bet on enhanced price markets. As with most promotions, if you cash out a bet in full, the bet will no longer be available for the offer in question. It also cannot be used if you bet on the draw on a game.
