The struggling Union Berlin will hope for a turnaround of fortunes when they come up against fellow basement club Braga in the Champions League. This matchday two in Group C will be between the two clubs with zero points, to be played at the Olympiastadion Berlin on Tuesday. The Germans started their Champions League career with a 1-0 loss to Real Madrid on matchday one. Union started the Bundesliga season with a couple of wins but have since hit a major roadblock. They lost five games in all competitions since then, including four in the league and one in the Champions League. Four of those, including three in a row, have come without scoring which remains their Achilles Heel. Worryingly for the hosts, after starting with a 4-1 win over Mainz, they fell down to two defeats without scoring. Both the losses have come while conceding multiple goals – five in total.

Braga also started with a loss on matchday one after a late goal allowed them to lose 2-1 to Napoli at home. They followed that loss with two consecutive wins in the league, though, to bring back a semblance of momentum into their season. In fact, the Portuguese have avoided defeat in eight of their last ten competitive matches. Even in the Champions League, they have started their campaign in the qualifiers, winning four in a row before losing to Napoli. Two of those wins have come on the road, against TSC and Panathinaikos. Stretching it to all competitions, the visitors have won five of their last six away matches in all competitions, giving them a distinct edge coming into this trip.
