Union Berlin are coming from a third straight win, after beating Malmo in the Europa League and will be on the hunt for three important points when they host Borussia Dortmund. They go into this game placed top of Bundesliga on 20 points while Dortmund are seventh with 16 points. It is a bit tight at the top of the league, with just three points separating the leaders from the fourth placed team, and Union Berlin will hope to open up this gap further. One area they’ve excelled in is the defence; Union Berlin have only conceded six goals so far, making them the best defensive side in the league. They haven’t been scoring a lot of goals though. In the last four matches, Union Berlin haven’t scored more than a goal, but they go into this game with four clean sheets in five matches. They’ve only failed to score in one of the five last matches, which ended in a 2-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Borussia Dortmund haven’t won much in their recent matches. They come into this game with two straight draws, while they have managed two wins in the last five matches. A key area of concern for them will be in defence; while they have scored in each of their last five matches, they haven’t kept a clean sheet in the last four games. They are unbeaten in the last three matches but in the last two they’ve had to come from behind to salvage two points. Twice in the last four matches they’ve conceded two or more goals and after drawing 1-1 with Sevilla in the Champions League, they’ll want to bounce back here. Three away defeats in the last four matches will however not put them in the best shape for this key game.
