Uganda vs South Africa Prediction & Betting Tips - AFCON
by Devesh Jaganath in AFCON Predictions
Uganda and South Africa are set to lock horns in a crucial top-of-the-table matchup in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at Mandela National Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Cranes currently lead Group K, while Bafana Bafana are in second place in the standings. Check out our match prediction below.
Both these sides will be putting their unbeaten records in this competition on the line here, but Uganda have only dropped points once in their four games, which was against this opponent in their thrilling 2-2 draw during the opening round. With the Cranes on 10 points and South Africa on eight, a win for either side will guarantee them qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
Despite their record and playing at home, bookmakers have made the hosts the marginal underdogs in this match. Can the Cranes defy the odds or will Bafana Bafana rise to the challenge in Kampala? To the key stats!

Uganda - South Africa: Form Analysis
Uganda originally entered this group as third-favourite to qualify, but they are now in a commanding position, needing just one point from their next two games to book their place in Morocco next year.
After that 2-2 draw against South Africa in round one, the Cranes have rattled off three consecutive victories, beating Congo in September and South Sudan home and away last month.
The hosts have won both their home matches in this competition so far and have only lost one of their last five on home soil, which was against Algeria back in June.
Uganda have kept four clean sheets in their last five home games across all competitions!
Meanwhile, after thumping Congo 5-0 in Gqeberha on matchday three, South Africa were unable to follow up on that performance, drawing 1-1 against the same opponent four days later.
Still, Bafana Bafana have been one of the most improved sides in Africa over the last couple of years and are now unbeaten in their last 12 matches across all competitions.
The last time the visitors lost a match was in the semi-final of the previous AFCON to rivals Nigeria. That was also their only defeat in their last 17 matches dating back to mid-January.

Uganda & South Africa Squad Analysis
Uganda head coach Paul Put has selected a fairly similar squad to the one he put in October, though he has opted to call up two uncapped players for this month’s double-header.
The new faces for the Cranes are teenager John Paul Dembe, who plays for Allsvenskan outfit Hacken, as well as Mutwalibi Mugolofa, who has kept five clean sheets in six games this season.
Dembe finished as the top scorer in the zonal Under-20 African Championship qualifiers with six goals!
Hugo Broos was forced into a few tough decisions with his selection this month, with the likes of Lyle Foster and Themba Zwane both currently sidelined with injuries.
As a result, Mothobi Mvala, Evidence Makgopa and Mihlali Mayambela make a return to the national team setup, while third-choice goalkeeper Sage Stephens also earned a call-up.
Notably, despite featuring on the preliminary player list, there is still no place in the squad for Al Ahly’s Percy Tau.

Our Uganda vs South Africa Prediction
Uganda will be brimming with confidence heading into this match, as they are riding a three-match win streak and need only a single point to book their spot at the AFCON for the first time since 2018-19.
South Africa are also unbeaten, and while their recent successes have been attributable to their solid defence, they have been very good in attack in this competition, currently the second-highest scorers behind Morocco.
The reverse fixture between these two was a thrilling one that delivered four goals, and we feel there will be at least a couple more in this one. Our Uganda vs South Africa prediction: Over 1.5!
