African giants Algeria are in danger of dropping off the top of Group G in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The North Africans visit Uganda on Match Day 4 of the qualifiers in a tight group that has four teams tied on six points. Goal difference places Algeria top of this group, two places ahead of Uganda while Guinea and Mozambique are also on six points. Uganda were almost flawless on their return to Namboole Stadium after five years of lockdown. Having spent years playing home matches away from home, Uganda had a triumphant return, beating Botswana 1-0 on Friday. The shaky nature of this group is such that Algeria could even find themselves fifth at the end of Monday. The North Africans’ campaign took a hit after their 2-1 home loss to Guinea on Thursday and it won’t be any easier away to Uganda. Yasser Balde’s own goal gave them hope, coming from behind after just two minutes of conceding. However, Aguiboi Camara would grab Guinea’s winner in Algeria to throw the group wide open. We have to go back two years to when Algeria last lost back-to-back matches and they’ll be looking to avoid that here. They don’t have a history of struggling against Uganda but this time they are too exposed. Algeria come into this encounter with one win in their last six matches. They have no clean sheet in those six matches and conceded two or more in four of the last five. Vladimir Petkovic’s side has no history of struggling in World Cup qualifiers, and will hope to invoke that here. Away from home in such qualifiers, they won four straight, and with clean sheets.
