Tunisia vs Australia Prediction & Betting Tips - World Cup
by Daniel Ngulu | in World Cup Predictions
Former African champions Tunisia will be aiming to build on their strong performance against Denmark in the opening game of Group D when they face Australia on Match Day 2 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The two nations will face off at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, with Australia seeking to rise from the bottom of the group, having lost their opening game as Tunisia claimed a point from Match Day 1. Australia will know too well a loss here would be costly as far as their chances of progressing are concerned but Tunisia will want to collect three points from the game to enhance their own chances of advancing.

Tunisia - Australia: Form Analysis
It is not a surprise Tunisia come into this game as favorites; they went into their game against Denmark as underdogs but put up a good fight to secure one point against one of the toughest teams at this competition. Their 0-0 draw with Denmark was satisfying, on Tunisia’s part. They were dominated but kept their shape and held on while posing a threat of their own. Tunisia indeed had more shots in the game than Denmark, 13 against 11, though they survived a few scares, as a late VAR check denied Denmark a penalty while an earlier goal from Denmark was also chalked off for offside. Going into this game, the draw with Denmark marked the second winless outing for Tunisia, after their 5-1 loss to Brazil before this tournament. Prior to that, Tunisia had three straight wins and the loss to Brazil is the only defeat they’ve suffered in the last nine matches. The North Africans have eight clean sheets in the last nine matches. The loss to Brazil is the heaviest they’ve suffered in their last 14 matches and it is the only time in that run that they conceded more than a goal. Australia didn’t have a very good finish to their match against France, despite their blistering start. They scored first but were outclassed 4-1 by the world champions. This should be an easier game to manage but they will have to be at their defensive best to handle Tunisia. Craig Goodwin scored the opener for Australia but soon after, they were put on the backfoot by France. On paper, this is the most winnable game for the Green and Gold and they will want to make this assumption count. They are ranked eight places lower than Tunisia and they don’t have a great record at the World Cup so this may also be a concern. The Socceroos have 11 wins in 17 World Cup games, which is the joint highest ratio for a team that has played at least 10 World Cup games. Before their loss to France, Australia had kept three straight clean sheets and were unbeaten in five matches. Three of their last five matches have produced under 2.5 goals and while they are seeking improvement from the first game, Australia will also hope to start a better run at the World Cup, having failed to win any of their last seven World Cup games.

Tunisia & Australia Squad Analysis
Tunisia haven’t reported any injuries from their opening game and Jalal Kadri should be able to field an unchanged line up. Aissa Laidouni was their best performer in the opening game, offering great link up play while threatening in attack and also providing crucial tackles and passes. The midfielder will surely be a cog in this game too. Taha Yassine Khenissi is the only player for Tunisia coming into this game with a yellow card, which he got just six minutes after coming from the bench. And not being a starter, the manager will not be too worried. Just like Tunisia, Australia will not have any injury concerns from their opening game to worry about. Martin Boyle was left out of the team well before the deadline and Marco Tilio called up as replacement though he was on the bench in the loss to France. Ahead of this game, there was an indication from manager Graham Arnold that there would be a few changes in the starting team but that remains to be seen. This being a key group game for Australia, we may see a number of attacking changes therein but Craig Goodwin might retain his place after a good showing, capped with a goal. Aaron Mooy, Mitch Duke and Jackson Irvine all got booked against France, but in the Socceroos situation, Arnold may have no option but to start them and home for no further bookings.

Our Tunisia vs Australia Prediction
Twice in their last five matches Australia have managed to score more than a goal. Three of their last four matches have however come with under 2.5 goals. Their numbers in attack in World Cup matches aren’t impressive either; they’ve scored three times in the last five and two of these were from the penalty spot. They do have three clean sheets in the last four matches, but failed to score in one of them. Tunisia aren’t coming from a lot of high scoring games either; three of their last five have seen under 2.5 goals scored and they’ve failed to score in three of eight. They have eight clean sheets in their last nine matches though, a pointer to their strong defence. Tunisia are strong defensively and Australia are weak in attack, while at the same time, Tunisia haven’t scored a lot in their recent matches, which supports under 2.5 goals for this game.
