TP Mazembe vs Mamelodi Sundowns Prediction & Betting Tips - CAF Champions League
by Devesh Jaganath | in CAF Champions League Predictions
Gameweek two in the CAF Champions League will see TP Mazembe face off against Mamelodi Sundowns. The match will take place at Stade du TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are currently third in Group A, while the visitors lead the group standings. It has been a difficult time for Congolese football over the last couple of years. After the Linafoot was cancelled last season, TP Mazembe were allowed entry to this competition this term and will be hoping to make the most of the opportunity. Sundowns, on the other hand, made it to the final four last term and look ready to challenge for the top spots again in the current campaign.

TP Mazembe - Mamelodi Sundowns: Form Analysis
While TP Mazembe failed to get past the qualifiers in this tournament last season, they did not make the same mistake this term. They beat Nyasa Big Bullets 5-0 on aggregate to clinch a spot in Group A and will hope to replicate their 2019-20 form when they reached the quarter-final of this competition. However, they are on the back foot, having lost their first match 1-0 to Pyramids last weekend. Despite the close scoreline, The Congolese outfit were no match for the side from Egypt, who dominated the match from the first whistle. In Linafoot, TP have been performing well. They are in second place, four points behind leaders Saint Eloi Lupopo, but have a game in hand. The hosts are unbeaten in 11 league games this season, including eight wins and three draws.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns earned their place in the qualifiers after clinching a record-extending 13th PSL title last season. And the South African league champions have carried their excellent form into this season. They already lead their domestic league with a perfect record of nine wins in nine games. However, their lead in the league looks even more impressive when considering they have played four fewer games than the rest of the top four. The Brazilians were far too good for Bumamuru in qualifying, as they ran out 6-0 winners on aggregate. They then put Nouadhibou to the sword in week one, overcoming the Mauritanian champions 3-0 at Loftus Versfeld last week. The visitors are the favourites to top group A.

TP Mazembe & Mamelodi Sundowns Squad Analysis
TP Mazembe have no injury concerns on record. Goalkeeper Aliou Faty was arguably one of the hosts' best players last week and is likely to have another busy afternoon. Djeloudi Likomza and Boaz Ngalamulume Bato also stood out for The Baba Boys and will have to find a way to contain the likes of Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
Sundowns have been missing a few key players this season and will head into this match without Bathusi Aubaas, who is still out with a groin strain. Midfielders Abubeker Nasir and Siyanda Nyanga were also ruled out with shoulder and ankle injuries, respectively. Uruguayan Gaston Sirino came off the bench to score against Nouadhibou last week and will be hoping to make the starting 11 this time.
