Ninth placed Tottenham Hotspur will be hosting Watford, who are bottom of the table as the Premier League resumes after the international break, in the ninth round of matches. Eight points separate the two teams on the league standings, with Spurs on 11 and Watford having managed three points from their eight matches so far. Both sides will be hoping for a better outcome after slipping in their previous matches. While Watford remains the only team yet to post a win in the season, Tottenham have suffered back to back losses ahead of this clash. One major concern about Tottenham’s form in the season so far, has been their defensive discipline. The team has conceded in nine of the 11 matches they have played across all competitions. In the last three matches, they have conceded 11 goals and their last home match was particularly a big shock to their fans as the London side lost 7-2 to Bayern Munich. In their last game, which they lost 3-0 to Brighton, first choice keeper Hugo Lloris got injured and will not be available for this match, which means more game time for Argentine Paulo Gazzaniga. On a more positive note, in the Premier League, Tottenham have had a fairly good run at home, with three wins in the opening four matches. In the three wins they have scored two or more goals, and only failed to score in the loss to Newcastle United. In their last eight matches against Watford, between 2017 and ahead of the Saturday game, Tottenham have scored two goals or more in five and they have five wins.

Watford, on the other hand, will be seeking their first win of the season and only their second win over Spurs in 19 meetings. They registered their second clean sheet in 10 matches in their last game, a 0-0 draw with Sheffield United. Of the 10 matches they have played this season, they have won just two and these were in the League Cup against teams not in the Premier League. Perhaps the best performance they have had this season was in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal after coming from behind. This depicts their fighting spirit, though after that draw they lost 8-0 to Manchester City. In three of their last four matches, Watford have not scored. They have not won in any of their last 12 Premier League matches stretching back to last season. In 20 Premier League matches, they have managed to keep only one clean sheet. Away from home in the league, they have not done well; in the four matches so far, they have managed just one point and one goal while conceding 12.
