Tottenham vs Southampton Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur are already 10 points behind league leaders Liverpool this early in the season and after managing just two wins in the eight matches they have featured in so far, they know they will need to wake up as soon as possible. Spurs march into their match against Southampton straight from elimination from the League Cup by the lowest ranked side in the competition, Colchester United, which came on the back of a loss to Leicester City and a draw away to Olympiakos in the Champions League. Manager Mauricio Pochettino should be a worried man at this season’s run already but having managed Southampton, he will hope some of the tricks he pulls out will work. The manager rested a number of key players for the midweek game but still Spurs sent out a strong team and should have killed off the game before going to post match penalties. With the team taking part in three competitions, ahead of the FA Cup later in the season, the coach opted for rotation but it seems to be backfiring already and he will have to recall his main men for the Southampton game, including Harry Kane who wasn’t in the squad for the Colchester game. While they have had two emphatic wins already, against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, and drawn with Arsenal and Manchester City, Spurs have shown a big deficiency when it comes to lesser strong teams and have already lost to Newcastle United and Leicester City. They have two clean sheets in the eight matches they have played in the season and have conceded twice in four of the eight. They came from a goal down against Aston Villa on the opening weekend and went on to win the game and also against Manchester City twice to pick a point. However, they blew leads against Arsenal and Leicester, while they failed to score against Newcastle United. They will however be banking on their home form, having picked two wins in the three league matches played there this season.

Southampton on the other hand, will be banking on the good tidings from their 4 – 0 win over Portsmouth in the League Cup, which came on the back of a 1 – 3 loss to Bournemouth in the Premier League. Southampton will be hoping to pile the pressure on Spurs and Danny Ings, having scored two in the rout to make it three goals in the season, will be keen to extend the same against Spurs. We however feel Moussa Djenepo, with two goals in three matches for the Saints will pose the bigger threat. Southampton started the season badly, with straight losses; but they have improved so far, and in their last six matches across all competitions, they have four wins, and just one loss. They have four clean sheets in the six matches and have scored in each of their last seven matches. They have back to back wins in the Premier League, and with clean sheets and will be hoping to make it three here but with just one win in seven away matches against Spurs should be a cause for concern. In their last meeting, Southampton picked a win over Spurs, but that is the only win in the last six meetings, while Spurs have four. In a total 84 meetings, Spurs have managed 40 wins, and Southampton have 25. Seven of the last 10 meetings between the two sides have yielded over 2.5 goals.
