Tottenham have a second straight home game to plan for, after an impressive outing against Wolves in the last game. This time they play host to Aston Villa, with the game holding more for Spurs than their visitors. Tottenham are sixth with 59 points and Villa 11th on 49. It is still mathematically possible for Spurs to get to one the Champions League slots but being five points behind fourth placed Chelsea, targeting Europa League looks wiser. The hosts are on a good run at home, going to this game on three straight wins and growing in confidence after the recent changes in the coaching department. In the six wins they’ve managed in the last seven home matches, Tottenham have scored two or more goals. As they target continent al football, their push in this game is expected to be stronger than Villa’s and head to head records favor the hosts too, having won six straight.

Aston Villa held much promise earlier in the season but some element of laxity was evident in their last game, as they lost the lead twice before falling 3-2 away to Crystal Palace. This was their third straight winless game and the second time in three matches that they’ve conceded three goals. Villa have one clean sheet in their last 10 league matches and in that run, they’ve conceded two or more goals in six. Two wins in 12 league matches doesn’t place them as a serious threat to a Spurs side playing at home and having one win and three losses in their last five away matches strengthens their place as underdogs.
