It is set to be a monumental affair when Talleres host their Argentinian counterparts Colon for the first round of the Copa Libertadores play offs. The home side were impressive at the competition’s group stage this season, finishing second behind Flamengo and seven points better off than the third placed team, conceding five goals in their six games. They have however failed to take that momentum into the second phase of the Argentinian league, having just one win and three losses in their first five games. The home side are suffering from severe profligacy in front of goal, having only managed to score three times in their last six games. It is also indicative of their style, that all of their last nine games across all competitions featured Under 2.5 goals and eight of those had at least one clean sheet.
Colon are in similar fortunes. Topping a group also consisting of Penarol and the two Paraguayan outfits Cerro Porteno and Olimpia Asuncion, they look worryingly out of steam in recent games. They have just one win in their first five league games so far, and it looks obvious where their priorities lie. There are issues to be solved however, with Colon conceding in eleven of their last twelve games and failing to score in three of their last six away. They are also extremely poor in their travels lately, not having won away since the end of February and specifically in their last eleven games.
