Bet on the Olympics!

Our prediction for the men's 200m Butterfly at the 2024 Olympics

Men's 200m Butterfly Predictions - 2024 Olympics

Kristof Milak is the standout competitor in the 200m Butterfly. The current holder of the world record in the long course 200m Butterfly returned to racing earlier this year, and he’s undoubtedly going for gold in Paris. Milak has seven of the 10 fastest 200m Butterfly times in history to his name.

Leon Marchand won the 200m Butterfly in San Antonio in April and is one to keep an eye on throughout the competition. Marchand was the reigning world champion in the 200m Butterfly until Tomoru Honda beat him in Doha earlier this year.

Summer McIntosh, Regan Smith, and Elizabeth Dekkers are going to be among the betting favourites in the women’s 200m Butterfly.

200m Butterfly results

The results are in and we're happy to report that our prediction for the Men's 200m Butterfly was correct! Leon Marchand set an Olympic record en route to the gold medal with his time of 1:51.21.

200m Butterfly ranking:

  1. Leon Marchand (France) - Gold
  2. Kristóf Milák (Hungary) - Silver
  3. Ilya Kharun (Canada) - Bronze

Odds for 200m Butterfly winner:

Bet on the Olympics!

Our prediction for the men's 100m Butterfly at the 2024 Olympics

While having five of the six fastest-ever men’s 100m Butterfly times to his name, American Caeleb Dressel has been off the pace a bit in recent years, with most of his best work last done in 2019 and 2020. However, he showed he can still compete with the best on his day when he won the 100m in San Antonio and Westmont earlier this year.

Torri Huske posted the fastest time by a woman since the start of 2023 (55.68) in the women’s 100m Butterfly in San Antonio. Now 21, Huske has already racked up several records over the years and is one we fancy to be among the medals in Paris this summer.

100m Butterfly results

Kristóf Milák followed up his silver medal in the 200m Butterfly with a gold medal in the 100m Butterfly! The Hungarian was able to just edge out Canada's Josh Liendo by the slimmest of margins (49.90 to 49.99) to upset the odds and claim gold as a significant underdog coming in.

100m Butterfly ranking:

  1. Kristóf Milák (Hungary) - Gold
  2. Josh Liendo (Canada) - Silver
  3. Ilya Kharun (Canada) - Bronze

Odds for 100m Butterfly winner:

The odds for the 100m Butterfly are currently not available as the event has concluded. You can check out Bet365 for a number of other betting markets!

50m Freestyle prediction

Cameron McEvoy has recorded six of the seven fastest men’s 50m Freestyle times in the last year-and-a-half and is set to feature in his fourth Olympics Games. The Australian won gold in this event in the 2023 World Championships and silver in Doha.

Ukrainian Vladyslav Bukhov beat McEvoy to the title and is easily at his best in the 50m Freestyle. It is going to be interesting to see if the 21-year-old can now repeat his World Championship-winning performance on the grandest stage of them all.

Sarah Sjöström has won gold in the 50m Freestyle at the last three World Championships and is one of the most dominant athletes in women’s short-distance Freestyle swimming. With the six fastest times since the start of 2023 to her name, the Swede is the clear favourite heading to Paris.

50m Freestyle results

The 50m Freestyle event has come to a close and our gold medal prediction was correct! Cameron McEvoy captured the top spot, becoming the first ever Australian to medal in the event. His time of 21.25 seconds edged out Britain's Ben Proud in second and France's Florent Manaudou in third.

50m Freestyle ranking:

  1. Cameron McEvoy (Australia) - Gold
  2. Benjamin Proud (Great Britain) - Silver
  3. Forent Manaudou (France) - Bronze

100m Freestyle Predictions - 2024 Olympics

Zhanle Pan earned four golds in Doha and is the one to beat in the 100m Freestyle at the Paris Olympics. After excelling at the Asian Games last September, the 19-year-old has continued his impressive form this year and is one of the stars of short-distance Freestyle swimming in 2024.

Jack Alexy put in excellent performances in Knoxville and Westmont after a silver medal in Fukuoka last year. The American will be toward to the top of the bookmaker charts for a medal but will need a massive performance to challenge Pan.

Marrit Steenbergen will likely be one of the betting favourites in the women’s 100m Freestyle after earning gold in Doha and bronze in Fukuoka, while Sjöström, who holds the world record, should not be written off either. Gold medallist in Fukuoka, Mollie O'Callaghan, set an exceptional time in April and bookmakers make her pre-competition favourite.

100m Freestyle results

Our prediction for the 100m Freestyle was correct as Zhanle Pan secured the gold medal! His time of 46.40 set a new world record and marked China's first gold medal in a swimming event at this year's Olympic Games.

100m Freestyle ranking:

  1. Zhanle Pan (China) - Gold
  2. Kyle Chalmers (Australia) - Silver
  3. David Popovici (Romania) - Bronze

Odds for 100m Freestyle winner:

200m Freestyle prediction

While Matthew Richards had the fastest 200m Freestyle time in 2024, it was Hwang Sun-woo who earned gold in Doha. However, featuring seven of the top-10 times over the last 18 months, this is perhaps one of the most wide-open events at the Games.

Richards and Scott both excelled at the British National Championships, while Danas Rapšys of Lithuania is entering the Games off the back of his first World Championship long-course medal. David Popovici put in a blistering time at the Romanian event and could be the dark horse.

Mollie O'Callaghan, Ariarne Titmus, and Summer McIntosh are three of the expected favourites in the women’s event. The former is the world record holder in this and the 100m race. However, none of these ladies earned medals in Doha, where Siobhán Haughey took gold ahead of Erika Fairweather and Brianna Throssell.

200m Freestyle results

Another correct prediction by our experts as David Popovici secured gold in the 200m Freestyle event! The Romanian edged Britain's Matthew Richards by the slimmest of margins, finishing with a time of 1:44.72, only two-hundredths of a second better than Richard's time of 1:44.74.

200m Freestyle ranking:

  1. David Popovici (Romania) - Gold
  2. Matthew Richards (Great Britain) - Silver
  3. Luke Hobson (USA) - Bronze

400m Freestyle prediction

Australian Elijah Winnington has recorded the fastest 400m Freestyle time in 2024, while Samuel Short and Ahmed Hafnaoui produced eye-catching performances at the 2023 World Championships and will be looking to follow up here in Tokyo.

Lukas Martens and Guilherme Costa are ones to watch but the Aussie duo of Short and Winnington have probably been in the best shape ahead of Paris and it would not come as a complete shock if they grabbed the top two steps on the podium.

In the women's event, Titmus, McIntosh, Fairweather, and Katie Ledecky are all going to be among the favourites. McIntosh and Titmus have put in the best times of 2024 so far.

400m Freestyle results

The results are in for the 400m Freestyle and it's Lukas Märtens who takes home the gold medal! The 22-year-old beat out Australia's Elijah Winnington and South Korea's Woo-Min Kim to claim the top spot in the podium and became the first German to win the 400m Freestyle since 1988.

400m Freestyle ranking:

  1. Lukas Märtens (Germany) - Gold
  2. Elijah Winnington (Australia) - Silver
  3. Woo-Min Kim (South Korea) - Bronze

Odds for 400m Freestyle winner:

1500m Freestyle prediction

The 1500m freestyle is a very difficult and gruelling event. A different set of skills is required for this event, which is evident when you look at the fastest times since the start of last year. Bobby Finke, world champion, Daniel Wiffen and Florian Wellbrock have all posted excellent times over the past 12 months.

Short and Martens have also performed well. Although Wiffen seems to be the favourite after winning two individual gold medals in Doha, several swimmers will be trying their luck in this event. But our big favourite remains Bobby Finke!

In the women's event, we mustn't forget Ledecky. Her record over the last few years is absolutely outstanding, even if Simone Quadarella won gold in the 800m and 1500m at the last world championships.

1500m Freestyle results

Our SportyTrader experts were correct with their prediciton of Bobby Finke to win the gold medal despite being a 4.50 underdog! The American posted a world record time of 14:30.67 en route to the gold, beating out Gregorio Paltrinieri and Daniel Wiffen who finished second and third, respectively.

1500m Freestyle ranking:

  1. Bobby Finke (USA) - Gold
  2. Gregorio Paltrinieri (Italy) - Silver
  3. Daniel Wiffen (Ireland) - Bronze

Leon Marchand - 2024 Olympics Swimming Picks

Indeed, while some events will have out-and-out favourites, there will still be plenty of value to be had from a betting perspective. Upsets are inevitable and potentially profitable if picked up in time.

Adam Peaty and Qin Haiyang are expected to feature prominently in the Breaststroke. Haiyang has posted several solid times over the last 18 months, while Peaty put up a blistering 57.94 in the 2024 British National Championships.

Rūta Meilutytė earned gold in Doha and two in Fukuoka, and looks like the one to catch in the 100m and 200m women’s Breaststroke. Hunter Armstrong and Ryan Murphy of the USA are two of the favourites in men’s Backstroke, with Kaylee McKeown and Regan Smith being the top two in the women’s event.

Keep an eye on Katie Grimes and Carson Foster in the women’s 400m and men’s 400m Individual Medley, respectively.

French prodigy Léon Marchand will be one to watch at these Olympics and likely to be the clear favourite given his home advantage. Marchand also broke Michael Phelps' world record at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka.

Olympic Games 2024: How to make good predictions for swimming?

Olympics swimming

Making good predictions for swimming at the 2024 Olympics requires a blend of both skill and strategy. Of course, a little assistance along the way is always helpful!

Here are our 5 top tips for making accurate swimming predictions at the 2024 Paris Olympics:

  • Evaluate Olympic Track Record
  • Dive Into the Form Guide
  • Look for Betting Trends
  • Benefit from Sportsbook Offers
  • Learn About Strengths and Weaknesses

Understanding the rules and conditions for betting on each market is of paramount importance. Additionally, it is a good practice to keep up to date with all the promotions available when betting on swimming as bookies are going to have plenty of bonuses and special markets on offer throughout the Olympics.

Evaluate the Olympic track record

The Olympics is the pinnacle for any swimmer. The world’s best are all competing, and millions of viewers are tuning in. Consequently, pressure is higher than ever.

While some swimmers find their best form when the heat is on, others can whittle under immense pressure. Excellent performances in qualifying do not guarantee success in Paris and this is something to factor into your betting strategy.

Dive into the form guide

Form is important in any sport. Therefore, before placing a bet, develop a habit of analysing each swimmer’s form to get an indication of who is performing at their best.

You will be able to identify the swimmers who are in good form and those who have been struggling of late. We would recommend the World Aquatics site for this research - you can find loads of data for each competing swimmer.

Look for betting trends

Has a specific swimmer dominated a certain event? Is there a hidden gem going under the radar? These are the types of trends that are most helpful in your betting decisions.

Some swimmers might have been unable to back up performances on consecutive days, while others might prefer competing day in and day out.

These are all factors worth considering when weighing up the Olympic swimming betting markets this summer.

Benefit from sportsbook offers

Be sure to stay up to date with all the available sportsbook offers. There will be plenty of promotions and bonuses throughout the 2024 Paris Olympics.

From boosted odds to free bets, bookmakers frequently update the various promotions available and these can help give your betting balance a boost in the right direction.

Learn about strengths and weaknesses

As in any sport, understanding the participants' strengths and weaknesses can be extremely advantageous and this is no different in swimming.

Avoid betting on ‘big names’ and ‘short odds’ just for the sake of doing so and ensure there is some information to back your decision. Fairytales are meant to happen at the Olympics and keeping a clear mind can help you find consistent results.

What not to do for your Olympic swimming predictions

Always remain flexible and open to changing your betting strategy where necessary.

Here are some mistakes to avoid when betting on Olympic swimming:

  • Don’t automatically back the favourite
  • Don’t commit to a wager without doing your research
  • Keep calm and level-headed even if you have a couple of losers in the early rounds
  • Never forget to compare odds across multiple sportsbooks to get the best prices
  • Don’t back an outsider just for big potential winnings unless you can justify the selection.

Steer clear of these mistakes and remain open-minded to improve your chances of making smart wagering decisions.
