Southampton’s chase for a straight return to the Premier League will see them go head-to-head with Swansea City next in the Championship. Ahead of their trip to Swansea, Southampton are third while the hosts head to the game placed 15th. A recent rise has seen Swansea go 11 points clear of the relegation region and they’ll hope to keep that going here. The Swans will however head into this game with regrets, after failing to close out their game against Birmingham last time out. In this encounter, Swansea conceded a late equalizer, the clash ending 2-2, Swansea having led twice. The positive for the hosts is that they are now scoring with some regularity. They’ve scored in each of the last four matches and in three of them, they managed more than a goal. Swansea will also be seeking to avenge their 5-0 loss to Southampton in their last meeting. That defeat is their only one in the last six matches while they have no win in four meetings with Southampton.

Southampton come into this game with a spring in their step, being unbeaten in 20 matches. They’ve also been in fine scoring form lately. Their most recent 4-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday was the fourth time in seven matches that they scored four or more goals. The Saints are pushing for automatic qualification and this is a key game in that quest, being three points behind second. In their scoring form, they’ll be looking to go above Ipswich, who have lately faltered allowing sides behind them to close in. In their 20-match unbeaten run, Southampton have posted 14 wins. With six clean sheets in their last 10 matches, the Saints will be fired up to keep this run going. Another clean sheet here will be crucial for them as they also seek to improve their goal difference.
