South African giants SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns are set to face off in the biggest game in the league this weekend. SuperSport hosts this time, and are placed third with 22 points, 12 behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. After a small lull, SuperSport returned to winning ways in the last game, beating Stellenbosch 1-0. That was their first win in four matches and they will be looking to build on it against Sundowns. SuperSport have failed to score in just one of their last five but have managed just one clean sheet in the last five matches. Two times in the last five matches, they have scored two goals but they have also conceded two goals in two of the five. It hasn’t been very rosy at home though, with the team registering three losses in the last four.
Mamelodi Sundowns are unbeaten in their last five matches against SuperSport United. While they go to this game looking to extend this run, they will be wary of their defending as seen in recent matches. In their last game, they took a 3-0 lead but almost flipped it as Royal AM scored twice in the last nine minutes to see the game end 3-2. This is the second meeting they have with SuperSport in less than a month and it won’t be easy. In the first, in November, Sundowns led 2-0 at the 49th minute but it all turned around in the last 20 minutes as SuperSport scored twice to end it 2-2. Sundowns were also shaky against Stellenbosch recently, that one ending 1-1 with the champions forced to come from behind. Both teams have scored in three of their last four matches but Sundowns remain unbeaten in the league this season and have the best defence and attack.
