Sunderland will be hoping to return to winning ways in the Championship when they play host to Swansea City on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are currently in tenth place in the league standings, while the visitors are 18th. After a top-six finish last term, Sunderland have begun to see their playoff hopes for this season slip away in recent weeks. They suffered a 2-1 loss away to Birmingham City last week, which followed a 1-0 defeat against relegation candidates Huddersfield Town a few days earlier. That has left The Black Cats on 47 points after 33 matches, now seven points below Hull City, who hold the sixth and final playoff spot. At home, Sunderland have recorded ten wins and six losses in 16 games and are looking for a third consecutive win following back-to-back 3-1 wins over Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle. Despite the reverse fixture ending goalless, the hosts are the favourites here, according to the bookmakers. 

Meanwhile, after a top-half finish last term, Swansea find themselves closer to the other end of the table this season. They are on 36 points after 33 matches and currently sit only four points above Queens Park Rangers, who are the first side in the drop zone. The Swans were beaten 2-1 in their last league outing against Ipswich Town last week, marking their sixth defeat in their last seven matches. The only exception was a narrow 1-0 win over Hull City at the start of the month. The visitors have taken 19 points from a possible 48 on the road this term, though they have only won one of their last seven away games. However, despite their poor form, Swansea have been the better side in this contest, unbeaten in their last five against this opponent, including four wins and a draw.
