Sunderland vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction & Betting Tips - Carabao Cup
by Daniel Ngulu | in Carabao Cup Predictions
Sunderland’s best season in the League Cup in recent times came in 2014/15 when they finished as runners up while Sheffield Wednesday won it in 1990/91. The hosts will head to this clash on a good slate, unbeaten in the last five matches and with just three losses in the last 10 matches but they will hope to improve on their home form, having managed two wins, a draw and two losses in the last five matches, and scoring eight but conceding seven in the process. They have a good goal scoring run though, having scored in 14 of the last 15 matches and they also have a respectable run in the League Cup, having picked six wins in the last 10, and seven wins in the last 10 when playing at home. In the last six meetings between the two sides Sunderland have picked four wins. They welcome a Sheffield side winless in four straight matches, three of them being losses, though Sheffield have managed two wins, a draw and two losses in their last five away matches, scoring five and conceding as many. Sheffield have five wins and three losses in their last 10 matches and six wins in their last 12 competitive matches. However, they have suffered three losses in the last five League Cup matches and have picked three straight losses in the competition away from home. This clash has realized over 2.5 goals in four of the last 10 meetings.

Our Sunderland vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction
While Sunderland got relegated last season, Sheffield did not finish far off, managing 15th place and the fact that they have not done much in the transfer window, makes this hard to give to the Championship side. They have fallen four times to Sunderland in the last six meetings and while Sunderland have picked seven home wins in the last 10 League Cup matches, Sheffield Wednesday have lost three straight away matches in the competition, and won just two of eight away games. Sheffield boss Jos Luhukay could ring changes for this game, fielding a weakened side in anticipation of the Championship game against Brentford and this may work against the team as Sunderland, look set to send out their best side as manager Jack Ross goes for the kill. A win for Sunderland looks more like it here.
