Sunderland continue their bid to secure a place in the Championship promotion play-off positions. They start their 31st game of the league season in eighth and host 15th placed Plymouth Argyle. Sunderland are only a point behind sixth place and have earned four points from their last two league games. A 3-1 home win over Stoke City was followed by a come-from-behind draw in the local derby away at Middlesbrough. An 83rd minute equalizer rescued a point for them. Sunderland have won nine of their 15 home league games this season but lost the other six. They're still waiting at the Stadium of Light this season to see their first home league draw. Four of their last six home Championship fixtures have been won. They'll be looking for revenge on Argyle after losing November's reverse fixture 2-0.

Plymouth Argyle had a disappointing midweek, losing to Leeds United 4-1 at home in the FA Cup fourth round replay. They are at a crossroads in their season, only eight points above the bottom three but nine behind sixth place. The Pilgrims need to improve their away form if wanting to boost their faint hopes of a play-off position. They have only won one of their 15 away league game since returning to the Championship this season. Just 12 goals have been scored with 24 conceded. They are unbeaten in their last four league matches with the last two producing wins over Cardiff and Swansea. The win at Swansea finally saw them win an away league game this season. This is a tough game though and we tip Sunderland to get the win.
