Sunderland will seek to improve their home run in the Championship when they welcome Bristol City to the Stadium of Light. The two sides are two points apart coming into this game, Sunderland 13th and Bristol 12th. The hosts have so far managed 51 points, and are almost sure of survival. A top half finish will be somewhat an achievement, coming off a tough campaign. In their last outing, they slumped to a 5-1 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers. Chris Rigg’s goal, coming in the 77th minute, was a mere consolation, with Sunderland already trailing 4-0. They would concede a fifth four minutes later, suffering their first defeat in three games. The win over Cardiff City in the earlier game remains Sunderland’s only victory in nine matches. The Black Cats have lost seven of their last nine matches. At home, they have no win in their last four games, losing three. Sunderland failed to score in four of their last nine matches, and five of the nine had under 2.5 goals.

Bristol City, like Sunderland, haven't been scoring a lot of goals lately, but have a run to build on. They are coming from a 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle, courtesy of Nakhi Wells’ goal. It was their second straight win and a third in four matches, which should give them favorites’ vibes. Having also beaten Sunderland 1-0 in the reverse fixture, Bristol will be positive here. They’ve avoided defeat to Sunderland in the last two meetings between them. In their last eight matches, Bristol managed more than a goal in just one game. Most of their recent matches have as a result been low-scoring – six of eight had under 2.5 goals. Their last two meetings with Sunderland had just three goals scored, which may point us to another low scoring game here. Bristol will however be proud of their recent defensive performance. They come here with three clean sheets in their last four matches.
