Stoke vs West Brom Prediction & Betting Tips - Carabao Cup
by Devesh Jaganath in Carabao Cup Predictions
The first round of the Carabao Cup will get underway this week, and Stoke City will be playing host to West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening. The hosts come into the match following a 4-1 win over Rotherham United on the opening weekend of the Championship season. That win leaves them in second place in the league in the very early stages of the season and with an excellent platform to build on. However, Stoke ended last season in 16th place with 53 points, which was 16 behind the top six sides. They recorded just 14 wins in their 46 matches, along with 11 draws and 21 losses. In addition, they failed to win any of their last six league matches of the campaign, losing four and drawing two. Stoke lost each of their last four home matches last season, including a 2-1 defeat against this opponent in mid-April. Despite that result, they are the marginal favourites according to most bookmakers.
Meanwhile, West Brom got their league campaign off to a poor start, losing 2-1 to Blackburn Rovers over the weekend. The visitors were right in the thick of a heated playoff battle last season and were in with a chance of making the top six right until the final day when they lost 3-2 to Swansea. They eventually finished in ninth place with 66 points, three behind the top six teams. In the preseason, the Baggies played six matches and managed only one win over Shrewsbury Town, meaning that they are now winless in their last six matches with four losses and two draws. Still, they did beat this opponent home and away last season and cannot be ruled out just yet despite their poor form of late.
