Stoke City will seek to claw their way from the English Championship relegation zone when they host Middlesbrough next. After 34 rounds of play, they sit 22nd in the standings, nine points adrift of 13th-placed Boro. Stoke have amassed 35 points and can climb out of the red zone with a win here. Steven Schumacher’s men are tied on points with QPR who edge them on goal difference and are three points from 18th-placed Birmingham. The Potters have struggled to win and have managed just nine wins so far. They have been defeated 17 times which is the third-worst tally. Six of those defeats have come in their last seven outings. Stoke were defeated 2-1 last weekend away to Cardiff. But as they haven’t lost to Boro in three meetings, they will be confident of a positive result here. The Staffordshire-based club won the reverse match 2-0 back in October.

Middlesbrough are also coming into this match off the back of a loss. Michael Carrick’s men suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Plymouth to continue their recent slump. Favourites to secure a playoff spot at the start of the season, Boro have seen their chances wither away this year. The Smoggies have won just three times in 11 outings across all competitions since the turn of the year. They have lost six times with four of those defeats coming in the league. After the Plymouth setback, Boro are now 11 points from the top six with 12 games to go. A bit of reprieve for them though is that they have a game in hand. Middlesbrough have won 13 of their 33 matches so far and have amassed 44 points which has them tied with three other teams.
