2016 hasn't been the greatest of years for Stoke City. They failed to make it to Wembley in the Capital One Cup so this weekend face Aston Villa, rather than Manchester City in the Final. Recent league form had been poor too but they got back into winning ways with a 3-1 win at Bournemouth a fortnight ago and are still only four points off the top six. They should be able to continue their recovery with a win over bottom of the table Aston Villa. That's followed by a midweek game at home to Newcastle so they could yet close in on a top six place. Aston Villa have at least had a fortnight to get over their nightmarish 6-0 home defeat by Liverpool. That was probably the low point of what has been a terrible season for the club. They are seven points adrift at the bottom and eight from safety so they just have to start winning games which is easier said than done with this lot. They have failed to score in three of their last four away league games and it's just hard to write anything positive about them at present. Perhaps the pies they sell are quite tasty, perhaps not. I can only see a Stoke City win here.
