The second semi-final of the Nedank Cup will see Stellenbosch face off against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The winner of this match will move on to face either Chippa United or Orlando Pirates in the grand final on June 1. Both these come into this match in excellent form. Stellenbosch are currently second in the South African PSL standings, 13 points behind Sundowns and three ahead of third-placed Pirates. They secured a 3-0 league win over Golden Arrows in midweek, extending their current win streak to three matches and unbeaten run to 14 games in all competitions. In this season’s Nedbank Cup, Stellies had an early scare, needing penalties to overcome Pretoria Callies in their opening round. However, they’ve been formidable since then, beating Milford 6-1 in their second game and smashing in four without response against Supersport United in the quarter-final. The hosts knocked Sundowns out of this competition last season but are the underdogs in this one. 

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns have been formidable this season and will be determined to secure the domestic double after they were knocked out of the CAF Champions League by ES Tunis in the semi-finals. Sundowns are the only side in the PSL that are unbeaten this term, boasting a record of 19 wins and five draws in 24 games. They’ve opened up a 13-point gap over their closest rivals and have two games in hand. The Brazilians come into this match off the back of a commanding 5-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in midweek, marking their third consecutive league win in a row. In this competition, they beat NB La Masia 6-1 in the opening round, before overcoming Maritzburg United 2-0 in round two. In the quarter-final, the visitors required penalties to get past the University of Pretoria. Sundowns will be out for revenge here after losing to this opponent in last season’s Nedbank Cup and did beat Stellies 3-1 in the league earlier this season.
